Dad.

Watching the Royal British Legion Service of Remembrance tonight has made me feel so proud of you Dad.You and your generation really had a lot to teach us about giving and humanity.I now understand so much more about the values you lived by and instilled in us as children. I hope I have passed some of this on to my children and all the other children, young people and adults I have had, and continue to have, the privilege to work with. Some days , as now, I am so close to you I can feel you and hear you continuing to support me and love me the way you always did in life. If I can be half the parent and teacher that you were I have done a great job. I will always wonder how you faced Egypt with such level headed practicality and humour since reading your war diary. Thank you Dad, you are my inspiration and hope for the future.xx

  1. Just found this page when looking at another Watford Tech teacher, John Alldis. GW was a great guy- sorted out the bullies! I remember him challenging one to hit him with the boy being made to look stupid! Graham lived in Bricket Wood and I met him towards the end of his life. Looking back on the teachers we had, there were several that gave us values and inspiration we took into our later lives- Graham was one such man. I was at the Tec from 1957 to 1964

    1. Thank you for your very kind words! I can imagine Dad-all of 5 foot 3 inches-doing exactly that!! He always said, ‘good things come in small packages!’ and I know he was very proud of his values and always fair with us as children. I am always delighted to hear anecdaotes about dad as he was a very special person in my life.

  2. I have fond memories of Mr Walsh. I did A level art and left school in 1965. We used to hear about your long holidays in the West country, I believe, in a caravan.

    1. That is fantastic to hear! Gosh, if you left in 1965 that would be holidays to Porthleven that Mum Dad and my brother Howard had annually. I was not born at the time, but have also heard the stories!

      1. It was lovely to see his paintings and other art. He painted a portrait of my sister which he entered into the Royal Academy, though it was not accepted. My sister still has it. We used to hear about Howard. He played the violin I believe. What does he do now?
