100 years ago today my Dad was born, a second child to a coal miner and his wife. He would have been so proud of the grandchildren he never met, and they will always ‘know’ him as he is often talked about and his self portrait hangs in the living room watching over them. Dad, you were taken far too soon and I will always miss you, but without you I would not be the person I am today – you taught me to always think of others and do my very best. I try to live by your values and look out for those who are less fortunate and help where at all possible. Happy Birthday to my darling Dad – wish you had met Paul and the boys, I know you would have got on so well. Love always xxxxxx

The photos listed as Watford Technical High School are before the “High” school opened. The blazers do not have the triangle badge.
I was one on the first year of students who passed the 11+ and started at Watford Technical High School in Queen’s Road, Watford. We spent two years in an annex at the back of the old main building. Then we moved to the new building at Bushey Hall Road.
I remember Mr Walsh and I probably still have his signature in my autograph book somewhere.

Your father was my art teacher at Watford Technical High school in the early 70’s and I always remember him telling me to look deeply for the colours in nature when painting a tree or flower. He also said that if I wanted to be an artist then I had to draw every day…….regrettably I didn’t heed his words although I did go on in my late twenties to do a fine art degree. He also taught me the process of doing etchings. I will always be grateful to him for his encouragement. this is the first time I have seen his work and I love it.

It is always lovely to hear from Dad’s students and by having his work online I hope that many people will get to enjoy and appreciate all that I grew up with and now have in my own home to enjoy. He was an incredibly talented and generous man who I will always love and miss and perhaps did not really appreciate when I was younger!

In the late sixties ‘Mr Walsh’ painted me in oils. It’s in my loft, maybe I should get it down to show all the grandchildren!!!
